The clients had lived on the site for a number of years, and had established stables and outbuildings that would remain and form a part of the enclave of building the house would complete. They wanted a house that clearly claimed the site, and provided generous and striking spaces, great for family life and entertaining alike. The surrounding houses and views of the road needed to be edited by the house, and the more picturesque vistas captured. The client is a builder and wanted the house to provide a repository for his own ideas, skills and experimentation. It is a working farm house, and needed to be hard enough to cope with the challenges that presented, while forgoing none of the beauty and comfort we might expect to find in a city dwelling. The strength of the resulting built form wraps a surprisingly light interior, at all times acknowledge doing the landscape it sits within.
